Mohawk Fine Papers Leaves U.S. Chamber Over Climate Change Stance

mohawk logoMohawk Fine Papers, a long-time partner of Clean Air-Cool Planet, has resigned its membership in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce because of its position on climate change. The U.S. Chamber has been actively lobbying against climate change legislation, causing many member companies to leave the organization.

"Mohawk Fine Papers believes that to belong to an organization that fights action on climate change hurts its credibility as an advocate for environmental protection," said George Milner, Mohawk’s Vice President for Environmental Affairs. See the article here.

New Sustainability ProjectsOakhurst solar at Waterville

Oakhurst’s new hybrid truck the first of
its kind in use in the U.S. dairy industry

Portland, Maine – Oakhurst Dairy today announced three new projects in support of its continuing firm commitment to a healthier environment and healthier New England communities. The family-owned dairy purchased a fuel saving hybrid delivery truck, introduced a program to equip 25 of its large semi-trucks with drag-reducing “skirts,” and installed solar panels on a second Oakhurst facility, in Waterville, Maine. The legislation, which takes effect immediately, establishes the new, independent "Efficiency Maine Trust" to administer programs for energy efficiency and alternative energy resources. Green Mountain Coffee to Build Largest Solar Array in Vermont

Green Mountain Coffee RoastersGreen Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (GMCR) is set to build the largest solar array in Vermont on top of its Waterbury distribution center this summer. Company officials say the project, a result of the company’s collaboration with the State of Vermont, Green Mountain Power, and groSolar, North America’s premier provider of solar energy solutions, is a beacon of what is possible for a renewable future. Timberland Utilizes Green Rubber to Reduce Landfill Waste

TimberlineThe amount of global waste currently in existence is becoming a highly troubling issue. Timberland Company has collaborated with Green Rubber™ to create two new footwear collections that help reduce this problem. The collections, which are due to be released in fall 2009, will feature outsoles manufactured from recycled rubber from discarded tires and displace 42 tons of virgin rubber with recycled rubber. The outsoles are made from a combination of Green Rubber compound and virgin rubber compound, providing an affordable means of reducing reliance on materials made from non-renewable petroleum resources.
